Q&A with Lee Hamilton on civics education

Lee H. Hamilton is known for his expertise in foreign policy from his 34 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. But lately, he’s become more interested in civics education.

Now, as president and director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and director of the Center on Congress at Indiana University, he has turned his sights toward helping all U.S. residents, particularly the younger generations, understand and appreciate the workings of our democracy.

He recently spoke with Associate Editor Joetta Sack-Min about the importance of civic learning. Read the Q&A here. To read Sack-Min’s article  in January ASBJ on how some educators worry that our children are not learning enough about civics, go here.
