Education headlines
It’s already been documented that much of the federal stimulus money has been spent to backfill and patch holes in K-12 budgets. This week, we learned that 250,000 education jobs have been saved by those funds. But what happens when the money runs out? Now the U.S. Department of Education is warning states that they may be in risk of losing out on the remaining funds if they’ve misused their current allotments. In other news, the recession has pushed up the cost of college, and a Massachusetts commission wants a new state law to require students to stay in school until they’re 18.
